Fitting In...Kinda feels like High School all over again...
New cubicle, new boss, new coffee maker, new co-workers, new clothes, new everything...Damn it's been hard adjusting to the new job. I have to wake up earlier, drive a lil farther, have to know alot more than my last job, and have to fit into the daily rush of the office. On top of it I got so sick from the Palm Sunday fiasco and had to call out sick when I had no sick days yet to use. BUT the company let me take the day, thank God. I called my boss in a delirious panic because I literally couldn't go 5 minutes away from the bathroom and my vision was blurred. She heard me say 2 words and said don't come in, it's okay I wouldn't be fired. Whew....They have heart and care, which is a big plus.
The issues I've been having is that the girl training me has only been in every other day so I have ALOT of spare time and you can only go over your notes so many times. I know all that will change once I learn the job more but the waiting & being sick was driving me a lil stir crazy. You can only drink so many Red Bulls and so many cups of coffee to keep yourself awake. Yeah know?
But I am grateful, ever so grateful for the job and like anything new there is that adjustment period. I've noticed a few things that have been a lil weird. I'm the only brunette in the department of 3 blondes. I'm also the tallest one in the department at 5'5". Where I sit is parallel to the boss so she'll turn to tell the other ladies across from her things and then forget I'm there so she'll have to repeat it because there is a wall between us. She told me she has to get used to someone sitting there. I sorta feel like the new girl in high school. Everyone wants to know things about me but I don't know any of the lil stories & gossip so I'm the odd one out. For now...
All this new has made me so incredibly nervous that I think I stuttered the whole first 2 weeks. Today tho in my new leaf it was alot better. Maybe I got enough sleep or something or finally people are starting to get used to the new duck. I feel more comfortable doing the tasks asked of me and the conversations are flowing. Adjusting is hard...very hard.
I have to get back to work now but I'll be back later!

I Got a Taste…Now I’m thirsty for More…
The last 2 weeks have been a crazy rollercoaster I have to admit. Getting the news that I was going to be out of work come March 31st hit me like an Acme Anvil in the Looney Tunes cartoons. However I did manage to slink out from under it. I found a letter of a job agency that seriously is dated no joke, June 4th, 2009. I guess it pays to never throw things away. I went on the interview for the agency and then the next day I was called for for a position. That interview is tomorrow. I’ve never been more nervous & excited. Before the last interview my life decided to sign me up for a sketch comedy of events so tomorrow I’m praying everything goes smoothly at 9am.
The new position is for a Marketing Analyst for a newspaper distributor company. *Let out breath*. Yes it’s not engineering, but it’s exactly what I need right now. I don’t know the exact pay amount but it’s more than what I was making, AND there is Full benefits, including dental & a 401K. Talk about growing up, I’m actually happy for dental insurance! Never thought I’d say that. Lol.
The possibilities this new job can open is making my thoughts run a marathon…But ohhh I like it.
The other day when I had the first interview CJ stayed over my place and I got a glimpse of my future life. I woke up made him coffee while he was in the shower & then we both got ready for work. We played house but then again we didn’t. It was real. I sat down with him and just smiled for like 20 minutes. I think he thinks I’m a fruitcake for doing that but I think he feels it too. The rest of our lives is starting and we’re toasting to what will come next.
*Knock on wood*
I’ve never wanted the next steps to come so badly. Maybe you can have it all? Maybe…I got a taste of it and I’m itching for the next fix…
Hopefully tomorrow will go well…
*Keeping my fingers crossed*

You HAVE to Start Somewhere...
You have to put your lil playing piece on the gaming board and roll the die. I have my FIRST Interview tomorrow at 12:15pm for an agency. An agency however isn't the most guaranteed thing but it's a start. I'm going to put on my blazer, have my resume in hand, and walk in like I can land any job there. It's a free agency & she only has full-time positions with benefits so this should be a step in the right direction. Wish me luck!
I'll admit it tho, I'm really nervous. My stomach is doing mini flips right now. But I have to go. *Remember to breathe*
For almost anything you have to take that chance! I remember when I was sitting on the bar stool & a man asked me out after only talking to me for 15 or so minutes that I had to say, "Yes, I'll go out with you!". When I picked what a colleges I would have to go to I HAD to open that door and walk through. On this new job I have to answer that call and go for those interviews. No, sometimes is just not an answer.
Have you started anything new lately that you just HAD to put that first step in the door or make that call or make that commitment?
Hearing stories has always taught me something...I'd love to hear yours & learn. =)

Will Somone PLEASE Address the Pink Elephant in the Room? Now?
I felt like screaming that today alllll day at work. You know that feeling right? When no one is talking about what has happened or what inevitably will happen soon. It's unsettling and makes it impossible to concentrate. Sigh. However I held my head up high and asked the questions I needed know about my impending termination. The answers weren't great ones but I'm less in the dark then I was on Friday. BUT there is a mini light in the tunnel. I can go back on my father's health insurance for a lil bit because I'm under 26. Whew. Thank God for small favors...So now what?
I stared at my resume & asked "What do you want in your future job?" A paycheck would be nice but what do I want to go for? Engineering? Something to do with Math? Or go back to school? Or become an Social Media Strategist? I don't know. Before I can really dive into the work force I have to come to agreements & terms within myself.
I think I'm going to take me out to lunch & have a lil chat. Sleeping with Harrison Ford & magically having my new boss get in a skiing accident like in Working Girl isn't going to happen so maybe I'll start from square one & succeed. Yeahh. I'll do it. I got tons of great people(you!) in my corner too! I'll use my head for business & discreetly use my bod for sin. lol.
Now back to those silly elephants. My other pink elephants that are lingering are my book that I'm writing, decorating my apartment in the last few touches, some friendships that HAVE to go, the leftover Chinese food in the fridge I'm scared to even touch, my wardrobe (I realized I have to get out of junior's section), and realizing that certain people in my life are here for the long haul & it's okay to fight. Is there a spray to cure these pink elephants? Let me know!
Here goes nothing!

When your forced to make lemonade....

Seriously when life throws you lemons your kinda forced to make lemonade because there is just too many lemons in the basket. People keep throwing around the phrase, “Oh it’s because the economy is bad” kinda half-assly because they haven’t really been affected that greatly by it. Well in the past 4 years my mom has lost two jobs due to the economy being bad & companies selling their assets & combining offices to save money. It’s completely changed my life more than just deciding not to buy that XBOX or not having a Starbucks every morning. Yesterday was my mom’s last day at her current job. She’s okay with it because she’s going to take the summer to re-group, clean the house, actually relax for a few minutes, but it still sucks.
I really do think that high corporate America people don’t realize what it means to take a job away from someone with a signing of a paper or a snap of their fingers. Maybe because they don’t see the bills come in without a new paycheck, they don’t realize that their employees kids might be in college & now will have to come home(That happened to me), college might be a complete problem for some people, unemployment is actually not your full salary so it might not stretch as far, & when that car needs a new muffler its going to be a bitch to deal with.
I told my mom I wouldn’t leave my current job until she got a job so she wouldn’t have to worry about me. She did get offered a position in Newark, NJ but I don’t think she wants to travel that far so she’s going to hold out for a more local offer. It’s going to be okay because she did get a severance package for her time working at this company but what about all the other people? I guess you can say I’m a little bitter to the owner of her former company who decided to consolidate the 2 New Jersey offices into one that was in southern jersey, but I think we all have every right to be mad. It's way too far for my mother to drive or take the train everyday so she had to decline the offer at the other branch. We’re not toy soldiers that you can play with & then discard when you want a better toy.
It really is true that your life can change in a instance. A few words, one action, a handshake, a kiss, a signing of a document, a look…you name it. It all can change your life in a heartbeat. But we must learn to adapt & roll with the punches. It’s going to be okay it’s just a weird day when you know your not going back to the desk you had for 3 years. My mom is tough cookie so I’m sure she will be fine & get a new job soon it’ll just take a lil time. Time heals, time helps, & time fixes some things. We’ll just have to wait & see…

Climbing out of the rabbit hole...

I wonder how actors & actresses who stare in roles that are SO completely & utterly different from their daily lives, return to their normal lives. How can someone who stares in let’s say a costume drama with petticoats or a vampire show or a role where their mode of transportation is horse & carriage, come home, put on jeans & a t-shirt, use a car & go shop at Target? I don’t know. How do you return to your job after 4 days of rest & a surgery & just return to normal? Well it would have been easier if the air conditioner didn’t break at my job today…
It amazes me how within such a short time things can be so different. I wish I could take off more time from work but I can’t. My arm hurts more than my breast which I still don’t know why. I have my follow-up on Thursday. I guess it’s all connected. All the muscles & nerves, but it’ll be okay in due time. I had the same problem when I had the first surgery to remove fibroids. It just takes time. My boss isn’t going to be in for work so I hopefully can relax a lil bit. Daytime TV is a killer…I’d rather work.

I actually told my other boss that I was glad to go back to work. I can’t watch anymore TV. I want to climb out of the rabbit hole & return to my life. Even Alice had to return home after her encounter with the Red Queen. Yeahh there is always going to be the occasional drama wheel it seems but it was nice to just get off the merry-go-round for a little bit & just paint the white roses red. However I really really hope the air conditioner is on tomorrow. It was way too hawt & I got so nauseous & light-headed. Simple luxuries are really under-rated. Even being able to wear a bra after the surgery was a delight. Lol.

Well what’s up for this week? I’m still taking it easy & being sick today didn’t help BUT I have my SECOND DATE tomorrow with CJ. The flowers he sent to me on Friday are still blooming strong. I’ve been watching a ridiculous amount of True Blood so I thought I’d use a picture of Sookie & Bill. I grew up watching TV shows where dates are dinner & a movie or some activity. Lately, my dates were usually I met up with the guy at a bar with all our friends or joined the group dinner where we all just happened to be. CJ & I are going to play mini-golf tomorrow alone. I’m going to try to play rather. If my arm hurts I’m going to have to tell him we gotta only play a few holes. It’s just…so nice to go on a real date. Not just chill in a bar. It’s so refreshing. It seems like a step in a right direction. Who knows if him & I are going to develop into anything but I’m enjoying his company & delighting in the companionship. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Also this week I’m going to try and just feel better & heal. I’ve had to do a lot of healing lately & frankly it never gets any easier but you learn how to do it. Healing a broken heart, healing a mind, healing a breast, & healing a spirit. There are wonderful things in this world tho sometimes they appear to be hidden but they are there. I hope I can hold onto them for as long as I can. =)
Thank you everyone again for the all the comments in the past few days. I can't tell you how much I needed them & enjoyed reading each & every one. Thank you!
P.S. I received some awards lately & I will post them tomorrow!! Thank you ladies!! I have to get back into the habit of doing awards. =)

Like putting a band-aid on a wound too deep...

A friend told me that I seem to be putting a band-aid on a crack in a dam, hoping it'll hold back all the gallons of water. I feel that way too with alot of things. I feel buried like that poor lil kitty. Today was one of those days where I was most definitely buried in the sand at my job and I'm stuck because I don't have another job to go to yet. I wish I had kept on driving...
It was an okay day & I brought in those cupcakes I made yesterday to work. I had this "Let's calm the beast boys by making them treats" idea(I work with 5 men & am the only girl), but alas the sweets made their brains go soft and almost made me go postal on them all. My boss was updating things on a site I work for and basically DELETED half the work I've ever done on it. I was beyond aggravated!!! He also did a lil boy thing even tho he's in his 40's and said,
MORE CAREFUL!?!?!??! Are you 5 years old who only just knocked over a glass of milk????!!! I told him I was going to lunch early and walked out. I almost lost it. If this was an anime I'd have an angry bubble over my head and be all red and snorting like a bull. I hate re-doing work, especially work where I have to go to websites and cut & paste product descriptions over and over again.
If the economy wasn't so bad, I would have kept driving. If I didn't want my own apartment so badly I wouldn't have batted an eye. The cupcake band-aid didn't work. They ate the cupcakes when I came back and tried to make all nice with me. Yeahhh that's not happening for a while. I even got to the gym today and walked 2 miles to calm down.
Back to the drawing board. I seem to be spending my days being happy for a lil while and then being just slammed back down to the sand in a flash, where I gotta start all over again. Drats.
What motivates you? I mean what really motivates you to get things started. Life is not a high school track race where a gun goes off to start your race...so what makes you push off from the ground and start running towards your dreams! I'm not that much of a lazy person but I need a lil push, a lil motivation today if you don't mind. I'd appreciate the help!! =)
I'm going to try and get some shut eye to calm down from this and work on my resume some more. A band-aid isn't going hold over for long...you gotta make a difference yourself. I'm going to go watch the movie "2046" before I go to bed. It's my favorite movie. I think I'm going to post about it tomorrow. Til then...

But where we they going without ever knowing the way....

When I was a kid I used to be addicted to Nick @ Nite. Ya know when Nickelodeon showed the old shows from the 50's, 60's, and 70's after like 10 o'clock at night. One show I used to watch that popped into my head today was "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" staring of course Mary Tyler Moore. As I was editing my resume tonight, I started thinking of ladies that are inspiring and she popped into my head.
I would love to live her TV show. That might sound weird but hear me out. She has a big studio apartment, her best friend Rhoda lived upstairs from her, she had a job where they respected her, and her outfits were inpeccable. Well first and foremost in the show she had a strong position at the news station and her co-workers respected her. I want that. So I've gone to the resume classes, my christmas bonus is hopefully coming, therefore I'm left with to go find another job for the new year.
I'm going to try to work on things that I can personally control for a while. I can't control someone else or the weather but I can help lil things. So I sat down from 8pm tonight to 11pm and re-did my resume. Procrasination is the lil devil on my shoulder. I put my edited resume on Monster.com & Career Builder. Now I gotta just wait and see. But I DID IT!!! I did something new to start a change instead of just rant.
But I gotta ask. Is anyone else overwhelmed by these online job sites??
There are soo many jobs but it's hard to know EXACTLY what to put in the search engine keywords. There is also soo many qualifications that I fear I just don't have enough creditenials with my degrees. Why couldn't I be a dentist? All you put in the search engine is dentist...and there ya go. lol. If I wanted to be a math teacher, I'd just type that in too. Engineering is a such a wide field it's hard to narrow job titles down to specifics. I guess I gotta do some major searching with alot of different keywords. I'll try craigslist too.
I wish there was a class in college called "How to get a job" that really worked.

A lil while back I picked up this book at a thrift store. I gotta tell you it's old. Very old. It's from 1979. I'm sorry antique I'm not going to wear shoulder pads unless I'm driving a delorean. But businesses and the professional world is still the same with their attitudes. I'm going to flip through it and see what it can help me out with office ettiqute. Every little bit helps. It's funny tho...there are NO PICTURES in the book so im curious as to what they are going to tell me in writing about dressing professional.
But I am happy I did the resume. I'd been putting off too long. Is there anything special anyone of you know that you did to get your job? Internships? Projects? Mutual friends? People ya know?
Thank you in advance =).
btw...how did I get 98 followers? I'm flabbergasted. Thank you. It's making me smile so much. I will being doing a Holiday/100 followers giveaway soon...hopefully. Have a good night everyone. I have a cold from walking in the rain. yeah...me + weather don't mesh. But sleep will help. I wonder how much sleep Mary Tyler Moore got? *Wondering*. Title of this post is from the Fastball song, "The Way".

She works hard for the money...So hard for it hunny...
Gotta love that song by Donna Summer. That girl knew her stuff. Image via unknown.

I've been mentioning for a while now about a Resume class that I attended at my library. It was majorly helpful. Alot of people I know when I mentioned "Oh, I'm going to a resume class, IT'S FREE, so why don't you come with me?" they answered "Meh, I got one." or "Nah, it's okay, I'll figure something out." Maybe I just have an addiction to free classes?? Well I think that's obvious lately. At least it's not a strain on my bank account. Ironically only 7 people in a town of 15,000 people & a county of God knows how many attended. I'm still utterly shocked. AND i was the youngest one there by oh at least 15 years. What the hell? Who knows why?
For starters, I do actually have a job. However, I'm petrified of leaving my job. I get anxiety just thinking about it. I want to get something in my career of math or engineering but with those fields it's mostly a project basis and/or they want someone with the years of experience. It sucks. I basically need a company to give me a break and hire a recent graduate and give her a chance and not fire me in 6 months time. I've had friends that this happened too. My job now has basically become a safety net but I can't keep doing data entry forever. So I had to have my raining frog day and leap off in another direction. Ergo, I worked on my resume. A resume is going to be my foot in the door. I hope.
The instructor was actually the owner of www.a-perfect-resume.com. His name is Greg Faherty. GO TO THAT SITE!!! He actually will review a done resume for free and tell you what you need to do to fix it. That's not bad at all. The main thing he kept stressing was this is your advertisement so Sell yourself to the company. If you can do it make sure you write that.
Here are a few pointers he taught us:
1.) Keep Resume in a Positive Tone.
2.) If you are mailing in your Resume, Do Not Fold it into a letter envelope. Place it in a manila folder and ship it in a large envelope to accommodate that size.
3.) Leave personality out of the Resume, make it Facts only. Professional Tone.(Don't say, I'll be the captain of the job).
4.) NEED a COVER LETTER!!! He said, "Odds are 50% won't read it, BUT you never know when it will be the other 50% that will get you in the door from the cover letter.
5.) Make it either 1 page or 2 pages. If you have to go to the 2nd page make sure it's at least half full. Don't do the 2-3 lines on the 2nd page n say you have a 2 page resume.
6.) Make sure you email address is a serious one. Perhaps a variation of your name.
7.) Companies want to know you can do the job so perhaps under the job description you did put 1 or 2 bullets of accomplishments. For example, "Produced 20% increase in sales."
8.) Recent Graduates put education on top under the summary of what type of job your looking for. It shows you mean business about your education.
9.) TOP HIRING MONTHS: September, October, February, March, & April. That's what the instructor said from his experience but he said keep sending out resumes as often as you can.
10.) Also list EVERY computer skill you have. Even Microsoft Office. It might seem basic but there are people who don't know it.
11.) Don't use any fancy graphics or fancy bullets on your Resume because it may not transfer good when a Human Resource rep opens the email!
12.) Dates of employment should actually go on the right. This way the eye automatically goes to what you did before the dates.
The economy sucks, nobody is hiring, but your resume can really help change things he said. I hope so. I never had a job where I actually truly needed a resume it's been only an application. This is all new to me. I feel like Tess McGee in the movie, "Working Girl". She needed the right person to listen to her & give her a chance. I need that too please.
If I want to reach my goals I need to start taking steps. It's soo hard though. It is quite easier said then done. I keep saying that but it truly is. Part of me is like OHH Let's do this, let's go out and get that job. The other part is well if I stay at my current job I'll have X amount in my bank account and I could fall back on that. But if I don't leave I'll get stuck...........Ugh. I feel like I'm in a friend rut, a Mess rut (I love him dearly but eventually Mr. Brown-eyed Big is gunna be my destruction), a job rut, and a home rut. I need to move forward. One lil step at a time...Maybe fixing my resume from Mr. Faherty's tips will make me feel better, and give me some motivation to leave my job, not just yet, but soon. I can't just put it on the To Do List and never look at it again. Baby steps. Maybe just a lil every day...and build from there.
Somebody somewhere in high school or college really should tell people that your 20's are like one big Bi-Polar Disorder. Your mind races, you get confused, you seem lost, your head some days just hurts like hell, and then that shiny disco ball grabs your attention and off you go to something else. Oh and you feel like a mess some days. Baby steps. It's gotta be the way. Small lil steps, like a tight rope. Just PLEASE don't let me fall. Image is painting by Jean-Louis Forain, The Tight Rope Walker.
I hope maybe those 10 things can perhaps help one of you. It helped me, now I gotta write it. One step at a time. "Just breathe" - Ever After
