I'm a Spy for Mars...Venus for Hire...

There is an old saying, "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus". Oh yeah that's true. I've always wanted to read that book. Maybe one day. Lately it seems every man from Mars has been asking me for advice with ya know the ladies from my planet. I work with 5 men, two of which are my age, and a day does not go by without the, "Hey Mel your a girl can I get your opinion on this with this chick?". I think it's funny how one girl is supposed to answer ALL the questions about my gender. Well I've been trying...

Christmas was a big "Ask Mel" time BUT I think tho I used up all my tokens on it. I told them "How about perfume? Or How about concert tickets or a Show? Maybe a necklace? Or a Keurig?..etc..." I thought I was done. I forgot about Valentine's Day. Oh crap I kinda gave out my best ideas already. Oops.

CJ has alot of guy friends too and as we hang out with alot of them they are asking me "Hey did so and so say what she wanted for V-day?". Uhhh...no? So here's my dilemma. I think I used the good stuff on Christmas & birthdays. I'm at a bit of a loss what to tell these guys??? Chocolate? Lingerie? Jewelry? Maybe a flower that is NOT a rose or a carnation? (I always think non-roses shows more thought went into the gift)...However some of them did that route before making them stuck for more ideas...

Here's my Question for all of you:

What do YOU want for Valentine's day from your Valentine?
What are YOU doing for Your Valentine too?

I'm most definitely a "It's the Thought that Count" person. I once got a mix cd of all my favorite songs as a gift and it was so thoughtful I cried. The fact that you want to do something special for someone is more wonderful than any price tag. I think the most important thing is to spend time with your Valentine that day or the weekend before and if you can't be with them...a call and "I love you" is just as Awesome. Webcams work too & skype.  As long as that person knows that you are happy & proud to be their valentine I think it'll be a successful day whether it be a boyfriend, girlfriend, or a good friend. =)

I think jewellery is always a safe bet. And, yes, if going the flower route I prefer mixed blooms or a bouquet of peonies rather than classic red roses.

First, your blog is fast becoming my new favorite :). Second, I agree, I'm a "thought that counts" person, too. My advice would be to tell the guys to think about all the times they were out w/ their girlfriends/wives and try to remember the little things they talked about liking or pointed out while shopping. Say for instance she talked about a certain book, he could write a sweet nothing on the inside of it and give it to her with a really good piece of chocolate or a single flower - It shows that he listened (which is huge).

Personally, the most romantic thing a guy could do would be to give me a little valentine card in it's envelope (like the kind the kids would pass out when I was young...erm, I guess that would make the card vintage *feeling wayyy old right now*). With a simple "be mine" on it. If he wanted to make (-make- being the operative word) me some chocolate dipped strawberries, that would be cool, too.

I actually do not like Valentine's day. I don't want to be forced to buy some crap on a random day that Hallmark decided they needed to boost sales. My boyfriend gets off pretty easy!
That said - I typically use V-day as a day to tell my girl friends that I love them - with a card, etc.
In general, I think the best gifts are things to do together - tickets to a concert, show, skiing, etc. V-day can be simple. Card, something practical - a cool new travel coffee mug w/ a gift card to their fave coffee spot, something personal - a new item for a hobby - guitar picks, supplies for brewing beers, etc.

Personally, I've always been a fan of receiving mix tapes for Valentine's Day myself - they are extremely heartfelt, and tailored for one specific person. Aside from that, I love stuffed animals. I, myself, am not big on receiving chocolate or flowers. :/

We're just going out for a nice dinner, nothing huge. I'm excited though!

I don't know what I want. I think just a night out alone with my husband would do the trick. Preferably without all this snow. :)

I personally don't like the pressure that the media (and some girls) put on our lovely guys. For me, Valentine's Day is just another day. The most The Love and I will do is go out to dinner the weekend/day before. And just enjoy some time to ourselves. :) Sometimes the days are so busy that even when we set out to have time alone we end up consumed with work/housework.

This year we are actually going out to the University of Houston Softball game on Sunday and are calling it a date. :) Enjoy some "bad" food, and sit in the sun (if mother nature allows) together.

To me, time is precious and outways anything he could possibly buy me.

I am completely a thought that counts kind of person.
Maybe suggest to some of these guys a nice home made meal and their favourite dessert.
I am going to make my boyfriend chocolate cheesecake for V-day.

I love giving gifts but I always feel lost with Valentines day. It's an awkward holiday for me to shop for because its gotta be something more girly than say a christmas gift or something which I can be more thoughtful and different. Zombie chocolates just don't seem appropriate somehow.

I don't have a valentine's but if I did I would want a nice dinner and some flowers - call me old fashioned!

Is it horrible that I don't know yet?! Maybe a trip to the spa! That sounds nice!

I think a sweet little jewellery piece is always a great choice for Valentine's day:) Something personal like a charm bracelet or sweet necklace:) Kisses and hugs, darling
