The Little Engine that Could...Three Months Down...

I can’t believe I’ve been at my new job for that long! Three whole months. My empty desk is now stacked with “To Do” work, my coffee intake has risen, & my gas mileage has increased, but somehow I am able to wake up every morning and get to work on time. The sea of strangers now all have names & stories which I like to catch up on, there is only one closet that gets coats, the heavy duty stapler still hates me and when you hear the radio buzzing in the morning you know it’s going to be a pretty cool day!  Three months…I’m shaking my head in disbelief.

There is a little story about a little engine that despite all odds made it’s way up the mountain with a trail of animals behind him.  I remember reading that story years ago and frankly it still applies today. Years and years ago my preschool teacher once told my Mom that I wouldn’t last one day in regular school because I was so out of control. I doubt the lady knew that I was listening at the door. For the record I wasn’t crazy, I just had A.D.H.D and I honestly think the teacher was just too lazy to challenge me. But that memory from 20 years ago stuck with me and every time I have an accomplishment I really have to pat myself on the back because I see it as a pie in that horrible teacher’s face & a big “Fuck You”.

My First Business Card! <3

Today I had a small little accomplishment and I feel those little ones can add up to something great. I got my first real business cards from the new company I work for today and I am beyond thrilled. They have my name, my job title, company address and my phone number. I never thought I’d be so happy to see just a lil piece of paper. I’ve always wanted to have them but didn’t have a real reason to have one. Until now. I won’t be really giving it out to many people but I see it as an accomplishment that I’m finally on the right path.  I made it up that mountain.

Next month I will have health insurance again with Dental too. I really need to buy that job agency lady a potted plant or something who got me the interview. All because I saved a letter from 2 years ago when I had graduated college...who would have thought? It’s funny how things turn out…I’m so grateful that they did.
Cheers to 3 months down & business cards!  Can’t wait for the more…

I love making pizza! <3

Tonight I also made an absolutely delicious pizza with dough from the Rockland Bakery. I shredded the mozzarella cheese, added some minced garlic to the sauce and topped it off with some mushrooms for an extra kick! It was absolutely delicious!! =)

Today was a great day...I hope tomorrow follows this awesome pattern...

I'm Sorry Peter...I Can't Go with You to Neverland...I Grew Up a Long Time Ago...

Ever have that moment where you visit an old group of friends and realize your just not one of them anymore? Or you realize that you've GROWN UP so much more than them or rather have moved on from the past? Over the weekend I got to see people I honestly haven't seen in years. All my college friends & my gaming friends from when I used to go to conventions for it. Yes I had a nerd phase, I admit. I have NEVER in all my life felt so out of place. It was almost as if I was in a coma for 4 years and just woke up this Saturday with them.

I think they were expecting the crazy girl who was kind of going out of her mind years ago when she left Rutgers to re-appear yesterday. I'm not her anymore. I actually have a healthy relationship with a man who loves me & tells people our "How We Met" story with a big smile on his lips, I'm starting a New Grown-Up Job tomorrow that I need to use my skills, I have my own condo that is mine to call home, I drink cocktails and wine not the shooters of cheap vodka out of tea-light holders, I'm physically healthier than I've been in years & years, & I became the woman who I am today...not the confused caffeine crazed 18 year old who was following the crowd wherever it took her. I'm definitely not the one who played those role-playing games anymore to escape reality & to escape being me. I am delighted to be me...the Grown-Up Me.

My life has changed for better & I'm just not in that group anymore. But what is irking me a bit is that I'm totally comfortable with that. I'm okay with moving on from them. I moved out from under their comfort zone a long time ago, got out of their madness, and I think it's the best thing that has ever happened to me. Now I'm not trying to say they are bad people or anything like that, I'm just saying that I grew out of role-playing & their childish ways of life style. They have TONS of drama & I'm so glad to be out of it. It was a very sobering experience that makes me realize, "Hey...I might be heading in the right direction after all!".

The moment of realization couldn't have hit me at a better time.  Tomorrow is my FIRST DAY AT THE NEW JOB!!! I have to wear less eye-liner, get out my big-girl purse, show less cleavage, tone down the potty mouth, wear business attire, and lose the "I just crawled out of bed look"...at least from 8:30am-5pm. hehe. It should be interesting...very interesting. Wish me luck!

Have you ever had that "Wow I Grew Up" Moment before?
What was yours?

So Here’s a Different Spin on an Old Topic…What to LOSE Before 30?

Every morning I listen to the radio station Z100 and the “Elvis Duran and the Z100 Morning Show”. It’s a talk show where they usually pick a few topics and revolve the hour around it with people calling in and chatting about what the people suggest. This morning’s topic really struck me hard.

I’ve hit my Middle 20’s and now the next step is 30. I can write you lists and lists of things I want to do BUT what habits should I LOSE before I hit 30?

Their list was quite interesting that they started…

1. Stop blowing bubbles with your gum and popping them loud.

2. The stuffed animals in your room craze must die down to a minimum.

3. Shopping ONLY in the Junior’s Section of a Dept. Store.

4. Stop holding High School grudges…

5. Stop wearing pjs out in public.

6. Stop getting high and getting a real job.

7. Stop doing things to “REBEL” against your parents. You’re old enough to do what you want!

8. Ordering Shirly Temples and Milkshakes at Business Luncheons.

Alas I had to leave my car and go to work so I didn’t hear the rest of them. I however will not give up using colored pens. I promise not to write my checks anymore in purple but my everyday stuff will ALWAYS be in pink, purple, green, aqua..etc..=P

What are things/habits people should LOSE by the time they are 30 years old?

{I’d love to hear what you think!}

So THIS is what it’s like to be a Grown Up…Ohhhhhhhhhh....

When I was younger I loved to put on my mother’s shoes, her make-up, perfume & play in my grandmother’s closet. Becoming an adult was something so far fetched to me that I never thought it would happen. Of course I got older & now I’m in that tricky age where I’m seen as an adult but I still feel like a big teenager still struggling to find my way. However there are moments that make me feel like I’m on the right path, made the right choices, & actually might feel like a grown up.

It might have been cool to get sprinkled with pixie dust & stay young forever but I have a feeling it would get old. This holiday season I’ve done so many things that have made me walk a lil taller, feel less lost, & happy where my life is turning. One being driving up to my grandmother’s with CJ for Thanksgiving. It’s usually my parents & me driving up alone. It’s been that way for 24 years. This year it was different. I got to bring a guy up & drive up myself with him. It might seem so simple to you guys but it’s sort of like a rite of passage to me. I can’t help but smile.
I asked CJ who is 4 years older than me if he still had those, “Wow I feel like an adult now” moments. Oh yes he does. Over the end of last week he got a promotion at his job & he is ever so ecstatic. When I went over to his place to congratulate him he told me that he’s starting to feel like he’s finally where he’s supposed to be & that he feels like he’s becoming a successful adult. I'm SOOO proud of him! =)

Turning 21 was awesome, graduating college ruled, and now I’m faced with a lot more serious things. Mortgage payments, needing an increase in salary so I’m going to HAVE to look for a new job, watching my cholesterol, and making sure my back doesn’t go out again are more things but it feels right. Having a man in my life not an asshole boy is another. Having a dinner date with a couple that isn’t at a pizza place but a restaurant where your napkin is folded over your lap is making me feel like I’m EXACTLY where I’m supposed to be.

Call me strange but I like paying my bills. I enjoy having my credit card to use & getting in my car & driving wherever the wheel takes me. It’s a joy. I think I might have to change my blog description a bit because I might just NOT be lost anymore. I might be found & I might actually be a grown up. That’s fucking awesome. =)

Do you still have those, “I Feel all Grown-Up moments”?
I’d love to hear. =)
