"We" is Now and "I" and I Have to Step Up to the Plate!

When I was hired at my new job in April I was still under the crutch of the last girl that was the marketing analyst. She was supposed to leave a year and change later. I've worked hard and she has tried to teach me how to do this position as smoothly and effiecently as possible. But now she has decided to change career paths a lil bit early and I will now be in that first chair spot ready to pounce at the next issue. Needless to say I have first day jitters all over again...BIG TIME.

I know I will go in there tomorrow morning bright and early, battle the Garden State Parkway traffic, and break a leg figuratively but I'm nervous. I know I will get the job done but the girl that left on Friday did the job so good. I need to do that job as good and better to make my lil footprint in this company. I have to step up to the plate and roll with the big boys. It is true that you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince, and it is equally as true that you have to have many mediocre jobs to prepare you for that big break. I've never been more thankfully to have worked at my last job for so many years. Without it, I don't think I would have the courage to go in their tomorrow with my head held high. Also my family and CJ...they are totally in my corner and I need them now more than ever! Yeahh...I can do this!!

I'm watching the movie, "Morning Glory" for a lil boost in motivation. It's a cute lil movie where a girl doesn't give up on her dream. She goes against adversity and saves the day! I need and will do that! Big breath, lots of water, and a smile on my face. Okay...tomorrow is going to rock!!

Wish me luck!!

The Little Engine that Could...Three Months Down...

I can’t believe I’ve been at my new job for that long! Three whole months. My empty desk is now stacked with “To Do” work, my coffee intake has risen, & my gas mileage has increased, but somehow I am able to wake up every morning and get to work on time. The sea of strangers now all have names & stories which I like to catch up on, there is only one closet that gets coats, the heavy duty stapler still hates me and when you hear the radio buzzing in the morning you know it’s going to be a pretty cool day!  Three months…I’m shaking my head in disbelief.

There is a little story about a little engine that despite all odds made it’s way up the mountain with a trail of animals behind him.  I remember reading that story years ago and frankly it still applies today. Years and years ago my preschool teacher once told my Mom that I wouldn’t last one day in regular school because I was so out of control. I doubt the lady knew that I was listening at the door. For the record I wasn’t crazy, I just had A.D.H.D and I honestly think the teacher was just too lazy to challenge me. But that memory from 20 years ago stuck with me and every time I have an accomplishment I really have to pat myself on the back because I see it as a pie in that horrible teacher’s face & a big “Fuck You”.

My First Business Card! <3

Today I had a small little accomplishment and I feel those little ones can add up to something great. I got my first real business cards from the new company I work for today and I am beyond thrilled. They have my name, my job title, company address and my phone number. I never thought I’d be so happy to see just a lil piece of paper. I’ve always wanted to have them but didn’t have a real reason to have one. Until now. I won’t be really giving it out to many people but I see it as an accomplishment that I’m finally on the right path.  I made it up that mountain.

Next month I will have health insurance again with Dental too. I really need to buy that job agency lady a potted plant or something who got me the interview. All because I saved a letter from 2 years ago when I had graduated college...who would have thought? It’s funny how things turn out…I’m so grateful that they did.
Cheers to 3 months down & business cards!  Can’t wait for the more…

I love making pizza! <3

Tonight I also made an absolutely delicious pizza with dough from the Rockland Bakery. I shredded the mozzarella cheese, added some minced garlic to the sauce and topped it off with some mushrooms for an extra kick! It was absolutely delicious!! =)

Today was a great day...I hope tomorrow follows this awesome pattern...

First Day Jitters turned to First Day Cheers!! =)

You read that title correctly!! I had the BEST FIRST DAY EVER!!! I was a bundle of nerves, and that's an understatement. I was so nervous I woke up at 6am for an 8:30 job. lol. I dropped every compact of make-up I owned because my fingers just were giving out on me. I straightened my hair, put on my business pants, and tried to take that sigh of relief that Monday was here at last & feel the relief that I had a job to go to this morning. BUT did you guys know that the sun isn't even up at 6am?? It made me feel all over the place & I think I had too much coffee because I was like the Looney Tunes roadrunner to finish getting ready. Eventually I pulled myself together.

Now I had no idea what the traffic would be like on the Garden State Pkwy at 8 in the morning so I left at 7:30am from my place. I got to the job in less than 30 minutes...I'm happy I brought a book. Reading a book and listening to my ipod finally made me chill out a bit thankfully. The rest of the day...was out of a dream.

I got shown my cubicle and they started me off right away. It's different to be working with women. Men are from Mars and oh boy Women are from Venus. But they took me under the wing, sat me down with the lady that will be training me and started spurting off information. I tried to be a sponge. I was asking questions, writing down notes, meeting my new co-workers and was grinning like a schoolgirl. This is what I wanted. What I needed.

Just Breathe... The possibilities at this new place is making me drunk with dreams. I am the new marketing analyst checking out data for newspaper alliances and half through the day they switch their words to "You will be doing this" instead of the "This is what we do". It was music to my ears. Sweet music.

From getting up tho at 6am and coming down from this happiness high I need to go to bed. Forgive me if I'm a lil delayed in visiting your precious blogs...I will be back to my norm when I get used to juggling everything!! =) I hope tomorrow will be just as good as today!! =)

Today was My Series Finale at My Job...Beer + Pizza + Cupcakes Before Noon...

That does NOT make a healthy combo for a tender stomach, but a mini Ending party was necessary. I've worked at this job for 3 and a half years. Geez...that's the longest I've worked anywhere. I've lost friends, changed boyfriends, lost lovers, bought a car, bought a home, finished my college degrees, had 4 health-concerned surgeries, and learned how to be me in that time. As much as I bitched about the sports and the other things I'm going to miss working there very much.

The company at first was 8 people, then 7, then the precious 6 of us that was left. Those 6, me included, were almost like a mini family. I was their Snow White because the other employees were all men. I've given them advice, sometimes a girl's perspective, brought them cupcakes, bought them McDonald's breakfast in the morning once in a while, would accidentally make the office smell like flowers from my lotion, and would make them laugh occasionally with my randomness. They used to call me Melanie Dukes, like Daisy Dukes. I'm going to miss be called that.

The company disbanded due to a conflicting partner. It sucks. I KNEW I had to get a new job that used my degrees and had mobility but to leave like this was rough. I am so thankful that I somehow got a new job lined up for Monday but I can't help it being sad about leaving. I wish there would be an office of 5 goofy guys to visit once in a while because I will actually PASS my old job on the way to my new job. But alas no...

I can't sleep tonight but that's normal. I'm a lil depressed. They said they will soon have a reunion dinner to explain more details of why the company closed. My bosses think we deserve an explanation and I really could care less about that...I'm just going to be happy to see them again. When they hugged me goodbye I really fought the tears til I got outside the office. Sigh.

However, when one door closes another one opens. I have tomorrow to be jobless and I think I'm going to go ice skating to just release all the tension and sadness for a lil bit. Monday I will drive to my new job, but I will never forget my time at my last job. Never Ever. The light might have been shut off, but I hope we keep in touch, at least for a lil while....I wish them all the best of luck.

I'm a Roll...Oh Btw This isn't a Bread Post!

Please somebody pinch me because I don’t want this part of the ride to stop! The Interview went Amazing!!! THREE HOURS Long amazing! I hadn’t been on an interview in 4 years before all of this and I was an interviewing poster-child. I had screenshots of what I did at my previous company, recommendation letters, and tried so hard to have a perky attitude. I had extra copies of my resume and plunged straight forward in. If the company is letting you meet the President of the headquarters and chiefs and executives I think that’s a good thing…right?

What I found odd though is this…EVERYONE said I had an impressive resume because I had done so much in the past & have worked since I was 13; BUT I’ve had my resume on Career Builder, Monster.com, Yahoo Hot Jobs…etc…if it was listing jobs you name it I had my resume there with absolutely NO BITES from any company except commission-pay insurance companies…So I have to ask, How come having my resume up there had no help? Maybe because there is too many people applying to these so-called jobs or people just don’t read emails anymore from prospective candidates on these job sites? I don’t know but it’s weird to me…really weird.

I have another interview on Monday at 10am with the lady that would be training me and another partner in the operations. It’s so cool. What’s a better more professional word that means “Cool” but sounds better? I felt like a kid in the interview saying, “Wow that program is cool” but they didn’t seem to mind. A 3 hour interview was a lil intimidating but I’m looking at it as a plus!!

Talk about moving on, you know? I’ve had to move on and take those next steps for the past 2 years in almost everything. I’m just going to keep my fingers crossed that it continues right!! I'm darn right shell-shocked this is all going so fast. I can't tell you how worried I was...BUT Here’s Hoping again!! I just have to promise myself not to worry about it until Sunday night. It’ll be fine. ..I’ve gone this far it’s foolish to turn back.

*Fingers Crossed*
