Trading in the New York skyline for a New One!

Last week I made a decision to not go to Las Vegas for very important reasons but somehow I'm going on vacation anyway!! CJ invited me to with him to visit his family in Chicago, Illonois in 2 weeks. I'm so excited because this will be a real vacation for me like going on a plane & everything. If I went to Vegas I would have needed a vacation from the vacation! Long story short the girl I would have gone to Vegas with would have driven me insane & drained my bank account. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth like her & I would like to go Vegas one day when I know I can afford to have fun with all the trimmings. Ya know? Chicago however is completely affordable & do-able! I want to go to the Sears tower & go to the glass balcony!! I think it would be insane to see!!!

But there is one thing I'm going to have to conquer & get over. My fear of flying.

I don't know if I've mentioned it here, maybe in a 10 random facts about me but I hate to fly. I had a really bad experience the only time I've been on one & haven't been on a plane in ohh I'd say 8 years. I cried & had a panic attack for some ridicolous reason. It has nothing to do with 9-11 or anything but I guess its a phobia so there is no logical explanation for it...Right? I don't like not being on the ground & maybe because it's a close space? But I'm not claustrophobic so I don't know why I freak on a plane. I've dreaded going on a plane since I was really little. Perhaps I can't fathom how something so heavy can bring us one area to the next? Who the hell knows.

I'm rambling. I know I'm okay & it's the safest way to travel but something just urks me about planes. It's a problem that I think I'm going to have to get a prescription for like Xanax or something to calm me down or drink some alcohol on the plane. Sleeping is not option in my book. I'd be too paranoid to sleep on a plane. I think I watch too many horror movies. No really I've seen wayyy too much worse case scenario shit. But I need to be a big girl & conquer my fear fast. How else will I see the world?

Have you overcome a phobia?? I need all the encouragement I can get here!

This weekend I'm going back up to Rhode Island for another graduation party! It's so beautiful up there so I will definitely take more pictures!! So much to do too little time! I hope all of you have a good weekend!! It's supposed to be cooler too, so enjoy! =)

ok you got to face it my friend...

i know this is so dumb, but i have this horrible horrible fear of mosquitoes. like if there is one spotted, i'm in a blanket for the next couple hours, completely wrapped and tucked til that guy is probably gone. augh

but i hate flying, im not scared, but i do hate it. just take things that will distract you, like watch a movie on your laptop or ipod or bring a really good book :)

My coach used to hate flying. She would take dramamine....I think drinking on the plane may be a good idea too.....also - just make sure, since there are a lot of restrictions as to what you can bring now on a plane - that you go through your stuff so they don't throw something you really like away.

You can have liquids over 1 oz. or something like that.....as always, metal, matches, got to take your shoes off at security. Gotta have your ID, etc.

I'd check the website just to make sure you're prepared :)

Also, I think CJ will comfort you - just think of all the wonderful things once you get there that you will partake in. It will be okay. Mel, if it's our time it's our time - and God will take us one way or another. But until then, just live it up girl :) replace your fear with the excitement of meeting CJ's parents and escaping NY!

Have fun!! I really need to go to Chicago to visit a friend soon!! I'm thinking about going at the end of August. You can give me some good tips! :)

I was pretty terrified of flying too and my first time I cried like a baby every time it bumped around. Once you get used to it though it will feel like riding in a car and they say that you are actually safer and have much less of a chance of crashing in a plane than in a car. You will be fine!!!! Of course I will be praying like crazy for you that you get there safe. :)

With CJ at your side - are you sure that you even realise, that you are flying??

Maybe you should opt for a window seat if possible - I use to sit by the window, but if the person next to me is uncomfortable with flying, I offer to switch seats: just being able to look the surroundings, the sky and ground may do tricks...

I fly A LOT - but here's my little secret, after the first travel by air I was actually afraid of flying.. it just went away...

Have a blast in The Windy City

yay you have a twitter exciting!

So excited for you to go to Chicago, despite the fear of flying. I'd recommend drinking honestly since you're not going to get a Xanax perscription out of nowhere. I'm sure you'll be fine.

If you have a phobia, you should def. ask your doctor for a couple anti-anxiety pills. I always get prescribed Propranerol before I have to be in a wedding because standing up there makes me so nervous! I know lots of people who've been prescribed things for planes . . . it will probably ease your mind just to have something with you!

Oh dear. This morning I left a very lengthy comment on this blog and when I hit send it gave me a "could not find this page" page. Sigh. It seems you didn't get it.

Sadness. :(

Well, here it is in a nutshell:

I'm extremely jealous of your upcoming trip to Chicago! You are so lucky. It is one of my favorite cities EVER!

Also, I'm sorry flying is so difficult for you. I think the best way to get over your fear is to just take the plunge. Millions of people fly every day and they are perfectly fine. I even know people who fly at least once a week for their jobs! The more you're in the air, the less stressful it will be. Trust me.

I hope you have a GREAT weekend! xo

Sorry to hear about your fear of flying. I know you can do it, deep breaths, positive imagery, good music on an iPod and holding CJ's hand.

Have fun!!

If you haven't been, try to make a day trip to Indianapolis! Very nice and very clean city! It's only 3 hours away too, so not a bad drive! I go up there alot to see my brother! And if you do go head downtown (ofcourse) and to Broad Ripple).

Now, I you are talking to Mr. Anxiety here! Er...use to be...years ago that is! I use to have bad anxiety between becoming a single parent and going to war and just the everyday life of the Army being a douche bag! I use to jump out of aircraft in the Army and then the anxiety with all got so bad when I stopped doing that I actually became sacered of flying believe it or not!

Well, three years ago my anxiety got so bad that I took it upon myself to seek help....and I hate telling you this but at first meds helped alot! Now it's alot of coping and meditation that I learned to deal with that has helped me! I tried an number of mantras (saying them to myself with my eyes closed) while I flew and after awhile I just noticed oneday that I didn't need them or anything...when I flew that is!

I hope you do find something, because anxiety can cripple you if you let it! I still have days...but mine don't last as bad or as often! Enjoy you vacation....I'm way envious btw!

That glass balcony is CRAZY!! I would love to go on that (but would probably have a little anxiety myself while I was on it). Ask your doc for some valium for the plane ride and then join the mile high club with your boyfriend.hehe You won't even think about flying.

Yey brave the skies, it'll be worth it! Chicago is on my hit list of cities to visit, not really too sure why but everyone raves about it so I thought it must be doing something good!

I HATE flying too! Drammamine is my cure...that or a glass or two of bubbly. HA!

Xanax sounds like a good idea. Anything that'll help you stay calm. I can't really relate to the phobia about planes cuz I love to fly, but I think anyone can get over a phobia. It really is all in your head.

That reminds me of French Kiss when Meg Ryan has a phobia of flying...

I hear you I am afraid of flying too, but I have never done it, I know i will have to because I want to ravel and see places, so I will definitely have to get over it, I am excited for you though a trip to meet the bf family :)!! You will be fine girly, if not I do suggest you go to your doctor and get Xanax, it is great for panic attacks, I would know, just take one to get you through the flight, and you will be good to go!! :)

oooh chicago! Sounds fun! And yeah Vegas is quite draining on your bank account and your sleep I agree! haha I am not good with plane rides either, so I usually drink a glass or 2 of wine before boarding that way I just get all warm and sleepy and hopefully sleep through the ride

Chicago! Girl, you're gonna love it there! Be sure to go to the Navy Pier when you're there and go on a boat ride if you can!
I'm really lucky that I'm not afraid of flying. It's actually one of my favorite things to do. I do find that when the ride gets bumpy, I feel better if I listen to my iPod or have a glass of Sprite. If you get too nervous, something stronger might be a better bet, but Sprite just calms my stomach whenever I'm upset or anxious.
