So Here’s a Different Spin on an Old Topic…What to LOSE Before 30?

Every morning I listen to the radio station Z100 and the “Elvis Duran and the Z100 Morning Show”. It’s a talk show where they usually pick a few topics and revolve the hour around it with people calling in and chatting about what the people suggest. This morning’s topic really struck me hard.

I’ve hit my Middle 20’s and now the next step is 30. I can write you lists and lists of things I want to do BUT what habits should I LOSE before I hit 30?

Their list was quite interesting that they started…

1. Stop blowing bubbles with your gum and popping them loud.

2. The stuffed animals in your room craze must die down to a minimum.

3. Shopping ONLY in the Junior’s Section of a Dept. Store.

4. Stop holding High School grudges…

5. Stop wearing pjs out in public.

6. Stop getting high and getting a real job.

7. Stop doing things to “REBEL” against your parents. You’re old enough to do what you want!

8. Ordering Shirly Temples and Milkshakes at Business Luncheons.

Alas I had to leave my car and go to work so I didn’t hear the rest of them. I however will not give up using colored pens. I promise not to write my checks anymore in purple but my everyday stuff will ALWAYS be in pink, purple, green, aqua..etc..=P

What are things/habits people should LOSE by the time they are 30 years old?

{I’d love to hear what you think!}

Hmmm, that's a toughy! Maybe not using kid language like that? Eh, I work at Vh1. using puns and making up hip words is inevitable!!! I think saying the work "like" too much gets annoying when you are older and makes you sound stupid. I can name a few people that I work with who are in their late 30's/early 40's and sound like cheerleaders... yes I'm that girl who wears all black and growls to balance it out. HA!

super cute. now that I'm almost 31 (shudder), i've noticed my bedtime has changed quite a bit.

my weekends used to be 2am bedtime with 10am wakeups. now i'm in bed before midnight and up by 8am.

i'm old. ;)

Haha the thought of losing anything before I'm 30 makes me depressed. I wanna stay young FOREVER!! :P

But I guess if there was one thing to give up, it would be acting childish. There are too many people over 30 who don't seem to have lost that part of their personality yet. :S

I hope you're having a great week! xoxo

So interesting! I lost all of that by the time I was 20. But I grew up real fast at a young age. Although, I could never give up my Shirley Temples. NEVER!

I can't tell you how much I agree with this. I see way too many women up to their 40s in the juniors section shopping WITH their daughters rather than for them. I'm 20, so I feel like it's still okay to be there. When I get to be, maybe about 25-27, I'll probably veer away, but it just amazes me how many women are not just unable to admit their age, but at least act like they're grown women.

um, this is a GREAT LIST, and i would encourage all 20-somethings to read it!

i guess we all have some bad habits and we need to morph as we get older and wiser! for sure!

When i was 31 I took a good look in the mirror and realized i was still dressing my self like a 19 year old. I lost the baggy pants, sweat shirts and needed to wear something else than sneakers only. It feels a lot better dressing a little closer to my age :)

Stop holding high school grudges is a good one. Just not holding grudges at all would be good.

I for one need to lose all the stupid simple teenage slang and vocabulary I use. I have a very large vocabulary growing in my head that comes out fine when I write, but I need more practice when speaking apparently.

Hahah totally cracking me up! This is awesome! I'd have quite the list too :) xoxo

I hit the 30s mark already and I didn't even know you were supposed to leave some of that behind. I mean, I'm a dude, mind you, i dont do any of the girly crap, excep hold grudges, getting high and popping bubble gum even while im at work.

Shit, I should be embarrassed.

I'm 31 and I'm still guilty of 1,2,4 and 7.

The idea of giving up certain things before you're a certain age is something I hold no truck with. As far as I'm concerned, I'm still 23. Therefore anything goes.

I like the list they came up with!! This is actually an interesting topic. I often think about the habits I need to get rid of.

Love this idea! I'm definitely going to make a list of my own.

This list is funny.... and true. Being only one year away from 30 (yikes!), I think I need to give up expecting special treatment because I'm still/always have been the baby of the family!

Haha! I LOVE this list! I'm sure that people should outgrow dancing in their bedroom in their pajamas and/or underwear while singing into a hairbrush as a microphone. But honestly, I think I'll be doing that when I'm a senior citizen! :P

Be responsible but don't loose anything that makes you who you are.

I love Z100! Haha I sometimes listen on my morning commute as well. Today was unfortuntely not one of those days though. I don't think I do any of the things listed here, but I did get super excited when I turned on the TV last night and Finding Nemo was just starting. And I possibly watched it and ordered food in instead of making dinner...oops.

Have a great weekend!

LOL i think i was 23 when i realized i could no longer shop in the junior's section. HA!

something i needed to give up at 27 was thinking i could feel okay the next day after more than 3 glasses of wine ;)

haha, i love this topic!! such an interesting list...
hmm....
I think you women who are thirty should probably stop obsessing over celebs. It just seems like a very immature thing to be doing whenever I hear women in their 30s talking about celebs they think are hot and all that.

That's an interesting list...I think it's pretty ridiculous to just ban certain activities because you're a certain age...Think about it; it's absurd.

I'm 20 and I still have tons of stuffed animals (and, nope, I'm not getting rid of them) I don't see the point in just putting limitations on life..Why?

Hmm.. it's something to think about! lol I'm still 20 so I'm not sure what I'd add to that list lol

OneCraftyFox said...

This post totally made me laugh!! OK, definitely need to lose the stuffed animals and stop shopping in the juniors section all together :)

Stop buying cheap shoes, jackets, handbags and jewelry just because they are cute... start accumulating pieces of value that are stylish AND comfortable.

Lose any instant foods and clean those boxes out of your freezer, at 30 you should be able to cook at least a handful of decent homemade meals to get you through the week.

I would love to stop biting my nails by the time I am 30 - so that gives me 1 year and 4 months to do it.

I would have to say comparing yourself to other people. By this age you must have the confidence without the cockiness ;)
